The initial idea to form an association of automobile importers and exporters was first mooted when a group of car dealers sat down for their regular lunch get together in late 1998 to exchange ideas and share industry news. At that time rules and regulations pertaining to the parallel import of new cars were slowly being liberalised by the authorities and more players were entering the trade.
